Simple, yet exceptional. Probably the most fundamental grilled meat of all – the Seekh kebab. The word 'seekh' literally translates to 'skewer'. Traditionally, Seekh kebabs were prepared with minced beef with ample fat, fresh coriander leaves, chopped onion and select ground spices, rolled on to skewers and grilled to perfection over a charcoal open flame.
At Nagpada junction in Bombay, opposite the police station which was frequented by underworld gangsters during the 70's, is a quaint little Irani cafe. There’s no sign board. But ask anyone in south Bombay where to eat the best seekh kebabs and they’ll certainly direct you towards Sarvi, an almost century old institution. It serves the most succulent and lightly spiced seekh kebabs in the city.
